T-Shirt Tuesday: Future Birder & Birdwatcher

Posted on July 28th, 2009 in T-Shirt Tuesday

Offspring of birders have a high probability of being birders themselves. That’s not really a scientific fact, but it sure sounds logical. These t-shirts are for budding birders-to-be!

Birding expectant mothers will love this fun & cute maternity shirt that reads future birdwatcher! across the belly.

Future Birders themselves can sport this cute organic baby bodysuit.

T-Shirt Tuesday: 3x for bird banders

Posted on July 21st, 2009 in Banding, T-Shirt Tuesday

Last Saturday we went to a bird banding demonstration. In talking with the banders, we learned that we could observe their actual field work when they set up at Rollins Savanna today. Yippee! I’m really looking forward to it!

Bird banders attach small numbered and/or colored bands to birds as an aid to research. Bird banders are known as bird ringers in parts of Europe (I can never remember who calls them which term, they both sound natural to me). The highlighted shirts for this week have all been designed just for bird banders!

This design has a collegiate style. Property of Banding Dept is shown on a hoodie. Also available in Property of Ringing Dept.

This design, iRing, spoofs a popular iPod ad campaign. It has the silhouette of a songbird with a white ring around one leg. Also available in iBand.

This last shirt is the word Bander made of elements.

Sale & new birds @ Birdorable

Posted on July 17th, 2009 in Birdorable, Products

Just a quick post to say that there’s a lot going on at our cute bird shop Birdorable.com this month. It’s a Birdorable Bonanza with a new bird being added to the site every day until the 31st of July, when our 200th Birdorable bird species will be introduced. So far the Scarlet Ibis, Andean Cock-of-the-rock and the Golden-winged Warbler have been added. There’s also a big sale with some items 20% to 50% off – so go check it out!

T-Shirt Tuesday: 3x Ivory-billed Woodpecker

Posted on July 14th, 2009 in T-Shirt Tuesday

This week’s highlighted shirts are all devoted to the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. Earlier this month the Arkansas Nature Conservancy announced they will no longer search for the bird – something they have done since interest in the woodpecker was sparked by a probable / possible / supposed / unverified sighting in 2004.

With the IBWO back in the news this month – even though it’s bad news – I thought I’d highlight a few of our Ivory-billed Woodpecker t-shirts.

First up is this t-shirt with John James Audubon’s Ivory-billed Woodpecker painting from his epic Birds of North America.

Audubon's Ivory-billed Woodpecker Value T-Shirt

A kind of spoof of the old Got Milk? campaign, this design asks: got pecker?

Finally, this snarky design is perfect for any hard-core believers: My Ivory-bill is smarter than your skeptic.

Singing bird misinformation clock

Posted on July 8th, 2009 in Birding Blooper, Funny, Products

This clock is sitting on the shelf at our local Walgreen’s drug store.

Singing Bird Clock

I’ve thought of buying them out just to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands, but I’m afraid that will just encourage them to stock more. You can click on the above photo to see it bigger at flickr or just look at the partial close-up below.

Of course I’d prefer a Birdorable clock anyway, if I’m looking for a bird-themed wall clock (even if they don’t sing).

T-Shirt Tuesday: Natural Born Birder

Posted on July 7th, 2009 in T-Shirt Tuesday

This week’s highlighted shirt, Natural Born Birder, is a spoof of the Oliver Stone movie Natural Born Killers. The design is done in the style of the movie posters, with a pair of binoculars replacing Woody Harrelson’s rose-colored sunglasses. Of course, an image of a bird is shown in the reflection. Shown here on a Ringer T-Shirt.
